Our origins

The Museum of Eastern Asturias owes its existence to the generosity of Teresa Sordo Sordo (1916-1994), who was born in Porrúa and emigrated to Mexico.

The Museum of Eastern Asturias owes its existence to the generosity of Teresa Sordo Sordo (1916-1994), who was born in Porrúa and emigrated to Mexico.

This gesture inspired the creation of the Llacín Cultural Association, which promoted the constitution of the Ethnographic Museum of Eastern Asturias Foundation, our owner and manager.

The museum opened its doors to the public on the 10th of July 2000.

The leading role played by the citizens in the creation and consolidation of the museum makes it the first Asturian experience of social participation in the management of cultural heritage.
